Changes to Golden/Green Residencies, Entry Permits, and other key points Explained
Introduction
UAE’s new Visa scheme has been in the works for quite a while now and expectedly came into effect on 3rd October 2022. The new rules offer streamlined procedures and simplified rules which are bound to benefit not only ex-pats and tourists but Emirati businesses and Investors too.
The new Visa rules signify a big change in the country’s immigration laws too.
Changes to Visit Visa Rules
Tourists can now stay in the UAE for a more extended period of time without the need for a sponsor’s sponsorship. The only condition is that your visit must not exceed 180 days (6 months) in a calendar year.
This visa requires proof of having a bank balance of US$4,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies six months before submitting the application.
The changes have simplified life for Job Seekers too, as the visa for job seekers will allow professionals to seek employment opportunities in the UAE without a sponsor or host.
Changes to the Golden Visa Scheme
Several changes have been made to the Golden Visa scheme, allowing more applicants to obtain the coveted 10-year visa.
Long-term residency is available to more skilled professionals, with the minimum monthly wage requirement reduced from Dh50,000 to Dh30,000. Medicine, science and engineering, information technology, business and administration, education, law, culture, and social sciences are some of the disciplines which are considered to be under foreign talent. Applicants must have a valid UAE work contract and be classed at the first or second occupational level, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
Previously, anyone who spent more than six months outside the country lost their Golden Visa. The Golden Visa will remain valid under the new system regardless of how long the person remains outside the country.
Furthermore, Golden Visa will be available to investors who purchase a property worth at least Dh2 million using a loan from “certain local banks.” Off-the-plan properties from “authorized local real estate companies” are permitted.
It also eliminates the cap on the number of sponsored domestic workers and allows family members to remain in the country during the visa’s validity period even if the possessor of the golden visa dies.
The Green Visa
The visa is valid for five years and is subject to renewal. Aside from the extended duration, this visa allows the visa holder to sponsor their first-degree relatives and has a longer grace period once the visa is canceled, allowing them to stay in the UAE for up to six months.
Green Visas are classified into three types: green residency for skilled workers, green residency for self-employment, and green residency for investors or partners in commercial activities.
Because the Green Visa is a self-sponsored visa, you do not need to be on a visa sponsored by your company.
Family Sponsorships and other Rule Changes
Parents will be able to sponsor their sons till the age of 25 (up from the previous 18). Unmarried daughters can be sponsored at any age.
Children of determination, irrespective of age, are awarded a residency permit. Their first-degree relatives can also be sponsored under Green Residency.
The new visa system also allows for a longer grace time to stay in the UAE. “Longer flexible grace periods of up to 6 months to stay in the UAE after the residence permit is canceled or has expired,”.
The new regulations, which include advantages, facilities, and new and diversified visa categories, are intended to suit the needs, ambitions, and hopes of citizens, residents, investors, and those desiring to work and live in the UAE.
The UAE’s leadership is eager to reunite families and improve the quality of their lives, as well as invest in the potential of people with abilities and knowledge who can help drive economic growth and sustainable development, as well as attract capital and talent from around the world.
The new updated visa system has streamlined processes, rules, and procedures, as well as modern facilities, which complement the authority’s strategy of providing cutting-edge services and satisfying the future needs of all types of visitors and residents.
